Work in Progress

Over the last few weeks we Johan and my dad have been working on remodeling the basement or our 'mother-in-law suite'. We feel that this is a fitting name for the basement in that both our parents have been a huge blessing in the remodeling process. We are so thankful for them and the unique ways that they are able to help us!

We definitely have a 1950's style feel to the space that is inspired by the original 1950's refrigerator that some friends gave us. We are planning on renting the space out to a newly married couple in March - but this has not held us back from putting our own personal style in the space. Our favorite in the space so far: The kitchen area equipped with checkered floors, red counter-tops and turquoise painted cabinet.

It may look like a rainbow threw-up in here (too much color)...but at least it's fun!
Stay tuned for updates as the bathroom takes shape.

Olympics 2011

Last night Johan and I were selected to complete in the 2011 Olympics for Track and Field...Nintendo style. Yes that's right! After dinner, we discovered that our gracious hosts the Engbers are owners of not one but two original Nintendo units, complete with the original Power Pad. So of course we all had to re-visit our past with a blast to the 80's. What initiated as a fun, happy-go-lucky childhood experience quickly turned into one of the fiercest competitions we have had in a long time. Johan rocked the long jump with a record of 14.79m, and I set the record at the end of the night (for womens) 100m sprint at 6.49seconds. It was a fun night had by all...we are already in training to pursue gold in the next competition. Enjoy the video footage....

WinterWonderLand

Last weekend Johan and I "competed" in the Iowa Snowshoe Championship Race - not that we are at all prepared for the 4k race with the many many hills - considering the previous night was our first time using the snowshoes. But we thought why not just go for it! It was a beautiful day with good friends and we are both so glad that we decided to try it. We are becoming more and more fond of the snow/winter was we are discovering a variety of outdoor activities that we can do - we tried cross country skiing a few weeks ago. It was hard and you need balance. We are definitely bigger fans of snowshoeing.
